About ICAT Damage Estimator
ICAT developed this website to provide easy access to historical hurricane damage information. All information is open source and based upon publicly available data. The data has been normalized to reflect current inflation, wealth, and population from what existed at the time of the actual storm activity.
It is our expectation that this website will be a useful tool to media sources, local, state, and federal public officials, the scientific and academic community, the insurance and reinsurance industries, and to other interested individuals.
For more information about navigating and searching the data in this website, see the “How to Use This Site” section. For details about the open source data, see the FAQ section.
ICAT extends special thanks to Joel Gratz formerly of ICAT for his initiative and vision to create and launch the ICAT Damage Estimator, and to Dr. Roger Pielke Jr. of the University of Colorado for his scientific and academic leadership, and his drive to deliver important and relevant information to the broader community.

ICAT was founded in 1998 to provide catastrophe insurance coverage to businesses and home owners throughout the United States. The scope of our business activities has broadened significantly but we remain committed to our original vision: We are a highly specialized and disciplined underwriter of catastrophe insurance risk.
We operate in all states that are immediately proximate to the Gulf and Atlantic Coasts, Hawaii, and in all states that carry a material exposure to earthquake events.
Business is produced in partnership with select retail agents and wholesale brokers. Sophisticated underwriting and risk management tools are used to control our exposure to loss to appropriate levels.
Although we operate principally from Boulder, Colorado, we are underwriters at Lloyd's of London on behalf of ICAT Syndicate 4242 (rated "A" (Excellent) by A.M. Best Company, "A+" (Strong) by Fitch Ratings, and "A+" (Strong) by Standard & Poors); we also underwrite on behalf of other Lloyd's Syndicates and US based insurance companies.
ICAT is privately owned. Our business objective is to deliver an attractive return on capital to our owners; our business purpose is to help businesses and people to recover from disasters, and to deliver best-in-market products, capacity and service to our policyholders, agents and brokers.
